Active Electrode single electrode switch boxes are normally provided on ribbon cables in sets of 16 or 25 spaced apart distances of 6.25m or 5m to make the cables 100m long. These cables connect together in leap-frog manner to collect continuous ERT profiles. As ribbon cable quickly and manually connects at the press of a thumb (if necessary in the field) into IDC connectors within the boxes, cable damage is rapidly rectified. As field damage of cables often occurs regardless of cable strength, this system is practical regardless of the low strength of ribbon cable.
