The AgTEM system, initially designed for water exploration, has proven to be very appropriate for other purposes including detailed mapping of near vertical hydrothermally weathered faults, overburden detailing and even deep 3D TEM survey (see below). Although the AgTEM system is very small, compared to 100 x 100m loops or airborne TEM systems, it still acquires data useful at similar exploration depths if coupled with a high power transmitter. In contrast to manually laid 100 x 100m or larger loops, it continually logs data so as to give a similar signal per unit area covered, while also identifying small scale spatial detail that just adds to unresolved heterogeneity noise in the 100 x 100m loop survey. Compared to airborne survey, the slow speed of the system results in higher magnetic moment x sampling duration for the same area of coverage.

Deep 3D TEM survey of complex geology is feasible using a combination of 3D EM inversion, AgTEM as a roving transmitter and a network of stationary low cost EM receivers as proposed and patented by Richard Smith of Laurentian University, Canada. AgTEM (patent pending with modifications yet to be released) may slowly move back and forth, while continuously transmitting, across an area covered with a network of TEM receivers that continuously receive, all GPS time synchronised. The receiver network is moved, a line at a time, across a large survey grid, in leap-frog manner as AgTEM completes lines. This setup permits very superior noise handling algorithms to be applied as well as the advantage of complete modelling of complex geology to great depths using the collection and intelligent summation of many small-signal distributed measurements. Monex Geoscope are interested in supplying the low cost receivers necessary. As this concept requires considerable investment we seek a co-investing funding partner with the need for this application.
