The Argo Frontier 580 has been used for both waterborne HERBI surveys and towed TEM surveys. It is a bit of an adventure vehicle able to go many places thought impossible for vehicles. For waterborne use we add peripheral floatation as if one corner is 800mm up on top of a log above the water and the opposite corner is floating in the water at some woeful angle it is good if water does not breach into the tub and sink the Argo.

Being a skid steer triple axle vehicle it is high maintenance and hits each prominent raised obstacle such as logs three times. On tussocky terrain the ride is very good as impacts on multiple tussocks balance out. On boggy, swampy or fully inundated terrain it is highly valued. Once a mine planning survey was done with the Argo blissfully in up to 2m of floodwater during major flooding while all the safety personnel were staying away. In some terrain, such as paddocks with chain felled trees, its steering circle of zero is highly welcome while towing TEM equipment. Otherwise, a quadbike or 4wd is preferred.
