Landrover Defender TDi5 – Ex Army

  • Price: Price on application

This Landrover Defender TDi5 – ExArmy vehicle made in 2001 has been our vehicle of choice for towing the Wallaby TEM system. With a centre differential it crawls over rough undulating terrain compared to modern 4WDs that buck and kick their way over rough terrain as each axle tries to spin at the same speed. Rigid axles reduce underbody damage when driving over vegetation.

It has large diameter tyres, reducing incidence angle on bumps and in bogs and providing good ground clearance and ramp over and front and rear ramp angles. The bull bar is designed for hitting bulls and pushing over undergrown and trees rather than to crumple when it touches something and there is no airbag to fire off every time the vehicle hits a hidden erosion trench, stump or huge rock long grass.

The Landrover does not have a Deisel Particulate Filter such as has lit innumerable grass fires, nor does it have wiring all underneath that renders it useless once ripped off when traversing undergrowth.

The Landrover lacks an air conditioner radiator such as renders efforts to clean the main radiator to keep the engine cool when travelling all day every day through vegetation.

The Landrover hand brake is on the drive shaft leaving fewer vulnerable brake lines and parts where they get removed by traversing of undergrowth.

The Landrover has been equipped with Flashing Light, reversing quacker, Flag, battery isolation, call signs (on demand) and reflective strips as required by mine sites yet that is no guarantee a pedantic mine safety inspector may not invent some new requirement to reject the vehicle from site, insisting that a completely inadequate substitute replace it, once mobilization to site has been completed.
